Steve Martin interviews Roz Chast

roz chast interivew
Here’s a can’t miss interview with Roz Chast a fantastic comic artist whose work appears in the New Yorker. They discuss her thirty year career and showcase some of her classics. She has a book out called Theories of Everything that is a collection of her work. Funny comics are extremely rare so it’s great to see there is another great artist out there to rival the great Gary Larson.

Crack, Crumble, Burn.

Here’s a great book filled with amazing textures and art created with them. It also has a cd loaded with all the textures for you to play with. Pure genius.Got my copy in the mail this week. Just the type of thing I was looking for at just the right time. Was planning to really start shooting my own collection of textures just like this. Now I’ve got a great start. Can’t wait to incorporate this stuff into my work. Been itching to break away from the clean digitally looking stuff I’ve been doing and go back to my root spending more time drawing with a pencil first. You can order your own copy here.

David’s New Snail

This is a great animation by Mike Adair. I always enjoy seeing animators involve their kids on project and this is a great one.

Custom Paper Toys

Matt Hawkins is a cartoonist that designs paper toys and posts them on his blog for us all to download and enjoy. I have not built one yet but I plan to. He has some cool designs. Definitely a site to watch as more become available.

Check out this work from Insainly Twisted. It’s a series of short shadow puppet style animations from Michel Gagne. It would be great to see more of it.

Natalie Dee

natalie dee
Natalie Dee is an artist that posts a new comic on her blog everyday. More often than not it’s very funny stuff, that is if you have a weird sense of humor like I do. Definitely worth checking out often and very addictive. Thee heroin of blogs.

The Immigration Debate

I was checking out the Webby Awards nominees page under the Animation category and found this web cartoon from Super News. It’s funny stuff. Here’s where you can find the other nominees which includes the Animator vs. Animation II (seen in earlier posts): http://webbyawards.com/webbys/current.php?media_id=97

Arj & Poopy

arj&poppy
Here’s a web cartoon series worth checking out.  It’s a  bunch of animated shorts about a guy named Arj and his cat Poopy. Comedian Arj Barker writes  the material and is the voice of, well himself, Arj.

Human Skateboard

human skateboard
This pixilated film titled Human Skateboard is latest from PES. It’s a commercial for Sneaux shoe company. I recommend checking out some of the other stop motion films on the site. In addition to commercial work you’ll find other great shorts that often pop up in animation festivals. One must see is Game Over which I saw at the Animation Show when it stopped in Boston back in Jan.  It will bring you back to the early days of video games, for those old enough to remember these classics.
