My old comic “Generation Gap” has been published in another textbook. Just from posting the comic on this blog a few years ago I’ve been approached with requests for the rights to the comic by textbook publishers in four countries: France, Taiwan, Germany and now the good old USA. This time in a book titled “The Communication Advantage” by Kathleen D. Pagana, PhD, RN. It’s fun to see how the image is used to illustrate different points. And this one I can actually read without a translator. Kathleen is a respected and accomplished author and educator, so I am honored that she wanted my work in her book.
I also get the occasional college professor that requests the rights to put the image in a PowerPoint Presentation or course site. I just wonder how many people out there just do it without asking, probably quite a few. As long as they credit me and don’t make money off it, that’s fine with me.

Well, the book has been published and I got my copy in the mail today. The comic appears on the top of page 33 (seen above). It’s funny to see people from around the world contact me about acquiring the right to my work just from finding on my blog. To get a better look at the comic you can check out the original post here that sparked the request. It’s a shame I didn’t retain the French I leaned back when I was a 14 year old student. Then I would of had an easier time communicating with this company. Maybe I just needed a more interesting textbook with cool illustrations in it like this one.

Yes, my new website has finally arrived. I started out trying to build it in Drupal thinking it would allow me to do more with it and create an easy to manage site. But after hours of time and getting really deep into I realized it wasn’t going to make anything easier and it’s not necessary for what I was doing. So I bailed on that and just put it together the quick and dirty way with basic html & css. It’s still a work in process and could use some beefing up, but at least it’s up. Now I can shift my attention back on the work itself and finally start posting some new drawings.
The custom illustrated professor icons project is complete. There is a series of 14 images representing each week of the semester. Each professor starts off cheery and energized and ends up worn out and eventually passed out by the end. This is for use on a BC Graduate School of Social Work online instructors repository/ course management site. The samples above are images from the start of the series and the end. Didn’t want to fill the page with all of them, but you get the idea. The style of character is intended to represent old faculty from decades ago, keeping with the theme of imagery on the rest of the site.

I’ve been behind on coming up with new material to post to the blog lately, too much work on my plate. One big project I’ve got in the works is redesigning and building my website in Drupal. I’ll have a post with a preview soon.
